What you'll find in this content:

Learn how to install a linear drain correctly with these 4 simple steps and get a perfect finish.

The linear drain is one of the finishing trends that are on the rise in Brazil. More beautiful than conventional drains, they first win over consumers because of their aesthetics.

However, their functionality is much better and more advantageous than conventional drains.

In order to take advantage of this functionality, you need a perfect installation.

In today’s post, we’ll show you how to install a linear drain the right way.

What is a Linear Drain?

It is a type of drain made up of a drainage channel and a grate that covers it.

Around it, it also has drainage between the gaps, allowing it to receive a finishing coating without compromising its functionality.

They can be installed in bathrooms, balconies, barbecues, laundry rooms and garages.

What types are there?

You can find linear drains with grates in stainless steel (2 models), chrome or PVC (3 colors), as well as other materials.

By default, linear drains come in lengths of between 50 cm and 1.30 m. However, they can be cut to fit your needs.

In addition, they can be produced in different sizes for customized areas in each project.

At Tecnoperfil, for example, you can find Linear Drains in 3 dimensions:

  • 1.5cm x 2.8cm x 50cm
  • 1.5cm x 2.8cm x 80cm
  • 1.5cm x 2.8cm x 130cm

What are the advantages of Linear Drains?

The product helps to avoid a number of common problems and difficulties faced with conventional drains, as well as bringing benefits such as:

Greater security

Because it drains over a larger area, the product prevents water from accumulating and clogging the pipes.

Double grating, one external and the other internal, improves and facilitates maintenance, avoiding further problems with clogged drains.

The entry of water through the gaps and the tapered shape of the drain nozzle favor drainage, improving drainage and avoiding one of the biggest problems with conventional drains.

Aesthetics

Aesthetically speaking, a linear drain is much more beautiful and pleasing, bringing sophistication to the environment.

It has a shape that follows the wall and can be installed more symmetrically.

It can be cut to the appropriate length for your installation site.

Ease of use

It can be built into the floor itself because of its low height.

This product makes draining water much easier, especially when cleaning rooms and also for draining rainwater from balconies and terraces in apartments.

No more directing water tirelessly with a squeegee. The fact that the floor slopes in only one direction makes it easier to drain, and the water falls easily into the drain channel.

How to install a linear drain step by step

1 – Cutting the floor

The floor must be cut to fit the product. This cut-out must match the dimensions of the drain to be installed.

They are usually positioned parallel to the walls. Therefore, leave a space of a few centimeters between the drain and the wall.

In this way, the size of the cut-out during construction or renovation will be slightly larger than the actual size of the drain.

2 – Preparing the box

Next, the drain must have a direct connection to the siphon box at the installation site, or it must be piped independently of the flush valves (if there are any).

This is what will prevent the bad smell of sewage from returning to the room. Then, after cutting, the mason must connect the drain to the siphon box.

3 – Caimento

To install a linear drain, you need to take a good look at the slope of the floor. The slope of the collector pipe should direct the water to the siphon box, where applicable.

On the surface, the floor must provide the ideal slope towards the drain.

This will ensure that the water drains away and does not puddle on the floor. It is recommended that the leveling be done by an experienced and trained professional.

4 – Finishing

Being compact, it harmonizes with the floor covering, composing and not being obstructed by feet when bathing in the case of shower enclosures.

The different finishes provided are competent options for any environment, promoting perfect integration.

It also eliminates false ceilings in the case of apartments and townhouses, which are undesirable because they transmit the sound effect of the drainage to the environment on the lower floor.
